About
Someone suggested I add an 'About me' type page, so here goes nothing!
Me
Seven years ago, I saw a picture online, of a model with coloured dreads in her hair. "Wow, she must have a great hairdresser!" I thought. A couple of weeks later, I saw a girl on a bus, with gorgeous butt-length pink and black dreads. I stopped, and thought "Hey, if she can have them, why can't I?"
At home, I scoured the internet. I found some sellers and bought some hair pieces. One of them was fantastic, and I was inspired. Not happy with buying them, I wanted to make my own. More internet research, and I found Quinnster's instructions on how to do it. As soon as I'd discovered a shop selling basic hair colours, I had a go. The hairboard gave me advice when I was stuck, critique when I wasn't sure, and encouragement when I needed confidence. I practiced, practiced practiced, and have never looked back.
Had a full-time job, and dreaded. Went through university, made dreads. Took a different job, still dreading in the evenings.
I am 23, a medical microbiology graduate, and a self-confessed hair addict.
Dreads
All dreads are made of jumbo braid, either 100% kanekalon, toyokalon or American Dream fibre. They are well-backcombed, tightly twisted, and then steam-sealed to a point, with an un-dreaded section in the middle. Loose hairs are incorporated into the dread and the ends trimmed to make them neat and pointy. This makes them solid, durable, and they don't unravel or come undone. It also makes them a little heavier than some other dreads, but they last for ages!
Generally I specialise in making double-ended dreads. However, I can also make single-looped dreads (available in longer lengths), and falls. Email me if you're after something specific you don't see here, or for a quote.
Double-ended dreads are relatively simple to attach, can be washed in the washing machine (ideally not attached to your head), and are re-usable. Keep them away from evils such as velcro and bushes, and they will give many months of pleasure!
You can see some of my dreads and examples on color schemes in the galleries!
